Monsoon active in eastern Nepal; rain and heatwave conditions likely in several areas



KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said monsoon winds are currently affecting all areas of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, parts of Gandaki Province, and a few areas in eastern Lumbini Province.

Other parts of the country are experiencing partial influence from westerly and local winds.

According to the division, hilly and mountainous regions are generally cloudy at present, while the Tarai region is partly cloudy. Light rainfall is currently occurring at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

For this afternoon, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy across the mountainous and hilly regions, as well as the Tarai areas of Koshi Province. Madhesh Province and the Tarai regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are likely to see partly cloudy conditions, while weather in the Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces is expected to remain mainly fair.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions. Similar weather conditions are likely at a few locations in Koshi’s Tarai and at isolated places in the Tarai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Some areas of the Tarai regions in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may experience heatwave conditions, while parts of the Tarai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are expected to face hot daytime temperatures.

Tonight, weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, along with the Tarai region of Koshi Province.

Madhesh Province and the mountainous and hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to remain partly cloudy, while the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain mainly clear.

The division has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces and at one or two locations in Bagmati Province. Similar rainfall activity is also likely in some areas of Koshi Tarai and isolated places in Madhesh Tarai.
