US President Trump to join FIFA World Cup final trophy presentation ceremony: Infantino

NEW JERSEY: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup final and take part in the trophy presentation ceremony.

Speaking to Fox News, Infantino said he and Trump would jointly present the trophy to the winning team following the final scheduled for July 19 at the stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

“We will enjoy the final together with the President and jointly hand over the trophy to the winning team,” Infantino said. “Of course, we will always be together.”

Trump had previously attended the trophy presentation ceremony of the FIFA Club World Cup final at the same venue last year. During that match, Chelsea F.C. defeated Paris Saint-Germain F.C. 3-0, and Trump remained on stage throughout the award ceremony.

The trophy later drew public attention after it was reportedly seen in the Oval Office at the White House, while Chelsea was said to have received a replica of the trophy.

According to a report by The Athletic, citing FIFA sources, Infantino has been attempting to attend as many matches of the ongoing World Cup as possible.

The FIFA chief has reportedly been watching up to two matches a day during the tournament. Meanwhile, despite confirming his attendance at the final, Trump has not yet attended any World Cup matches in person during the current competition.
