RSP closed-door session begins today



CHITWAN: The closed session of the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am today at the Exhibition Centre of the Chitwan Industrial Association.

Preparations have been completed in two of the three main halls at the exhibition centre for the closed-door proceedings, while the third hall has been designated for meals and refreshments.

According to RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, the session will begin with the presentation of the Disciplinary Commission’s report by commission member Ramkanta Rimal, followed by discussions on the report.

At 9:00 am, Treasurer Lima Adhikari is scheduled to present the party’s financial report, which will also be opened for discussion. This will be followed by the presentation of the organisational report by General Secretary Burlakoti at 10:00 am.

At 10:45 am, the party’s joint general secretaries will present proposed amendments to the party statute for discussion and endorsement.

The convention will also deliberate on the party’s political report, which will be presented by party president Rabi Lamichhane. Following discussions, the report is expected to be endorsed by the delegates.

Lamichhane is also scheduled to announce the formation of an interim management committee before handing over responsibility for the election process to the party’s Central Election Commission.

Following the lunch break, the Election Commission will publish the election schedule and other procedural details.

According to central committee member Rajan Gautam, lunch arrangements have been made at the venue for all participants for both today and tomorrow. A total of 4,211 representatives, observers, and volunteers are expected to take part in the closed session.

Chief Election Commissioner Bhuwan KC said nomination forms for candidates will be distributed after 1:00 pm. Candidate nominations will be registered between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, while the preliminary list of candidates will be published at 6:00 pm.

The period for filing objections against candidates will run from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by hearings on disputed nominations from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until 9:15 pm, and the final list of candidates will be published at 11:00 pm.

The first phase of voting is scheduled for Tuesday, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Delegates will vote for one party president and 99 central committee members.

According to KC, vote counting will begin immediately after polling concludes, and results from the first phase are expected to be announced within two hours. The second phase of voting will be conducted thereafter.

The convention’s inaugural session was held at Guest House Ground on Sunday.
