KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that the upcoming fiscal year’s budget aims to digitally transform the traditionally operating Home Administration system.
Responding to questions raised during the discussion on the Home Ministry’s allocation under the Appropriation Bill, 2083 in the House of Representatives, he said the budget is not just a list of numbers but a national commitment to good governance, national security, and prosperity.
He stated that every rupee collected from the sweat of Nepali citizens will be invested in public service and strengthening national security, adding that programs and budget allocations have been increased to boost the morale of security forces.
He also informed lawmakers that efforts are underway to control the extraction of river-based natural resources and that coordination is being carried out with other ministries to address the issue. The minister added that budgets have been allocated to address problems arising from the Jajarkot earthquake.
On concerns related to procurement of police uniforms, Gurung said the ministry is working to address complaints and proposed that funds for police uniforms could be directly given to the police so they can manage procurement themselves, reducing the possibility of intermediary manipulation.
He further said that the ministry is sensitive toward the investigation of the Nirmala Panta rape and murder case, adding that efforts are ongoing to ensure proper investigation.
The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to controlling drug trafficking and abuse, cybercrime, and misuse of social media platforms.
