Westerly weather system to trigger showers and thunderstorm



KATHMANDU: The influence of a westerly low-pressure trough, along with local and easterly winds, is likely to bring rain and thunderstorms to various parts of the country, while hot conditions may persist in parts of the southern plains.

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the Himalayan and hilly regions of the country will experience partly cloudy conditions this afternoon.

Likewise, the weather is also expected to remain partly cloudy in Madhes Province and the Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain mostly clear.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar weather conditions are likely at isolated locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has also forecast moderate rainfall with thunderstorms in some parts of the Terai region of Koshi Province, Madhes Province, and the Terai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Hot daytime conditions are likely to persist in some parts of the Terai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally fair in the Himalayan and hilly regions of the country, as well as in the Terai region of Koshi Province. Other Terai areas are likely to experience partly cloudy conditions.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi Province, while isolated areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may receive light rainfall with thunderstorms. A few locations in the Terai region of Koshi Province may also experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
