KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has claimed that there are currently no differences or divisions within the party, dismissing speculation of internal disputes.
Speaking at a program held at the party headquarters in Chyasal on Monday, Pokharel said a task force has been formed to facilitate the party’s reorganization process and is currently collecting suggestions from various levels of the organization.
According to him, the party will move forward with restructuring efforts based on the recommendations submitted by the task force.
Pokharel said the UML requires purification, strengthening and revitalization to remain united and effective, adding that the reorganization plan would incorporate all three objectives.
He noted that the decision to reorganize the party had already been made institutionally and argued that claims of internal conflict were misleading because the task force has yet to submit its final conclusions.
“The party has not reached the stage of disagreement. The task force is still gathering suggestions, and its conclusions will help make the UML more united, stronger and better connected with the people,” he said.
Pokharel also criticized attempts to portray a new government as entirely separate from the actions and responsibilities of previous administrations.
He argued that such an approach contradicts the principle of government as a continuous institution and falls outside the spirit of the parliamentary system.
Emphasizing the party’s commitment to Nepal’s federal democratic republican system, Pokharel said there is no disagreement on the need to further strengthen the republic.
However, he warned that any efforts to weaken the federal democratic republican system would not be acceptable.
