Govt announces 200 road bridges and major highway expansion plan



KATHMANDU: The government has announced the construction of 200 road bridges in the fiscal year 2026/27.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the annual budget in the Federal Parliament.

He also said that 1,000 kilometres of roads will be blacktopped during the same fiscal year.

Wagle further stated that an additional 80 kilometres of road construction will be carried out within the next two years.

The government has also announced the expansion of the East-West Highway into a four-lane corridor, with an allocation of Rs 37.46 billion for the project.

In addition, more than Rs 5 billion has been allocated for the construction of suspension bridges across the country.
