NC-affiliated Nepal Tharu Association set to elect leadership through first general convention

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Tharu Association, a sister organization of the Nepali Congress, is set to elect its leadership through a general convention for the first time.

The association’s inaugural general convention is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The organization was formally recognized as a sister wing by the party’s central working committee in Shrawan 2079. Following the recognition, then party president Sher Bahadur Deuba had nominated 98 leaders and cadres from various districts as members of the association.

According to acting chief secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal, party president Gagan Kumar Thapa will inaugurate the first general convention of the Nepal Tharu Association.

The event is scheduled to begin at 12:15 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

The association is currently chaired by Shivnarayan Mahato Gurau.

Earlier, on Baisakh 21, Thapa had dissolved the executive committees of five out of the party’s 13 sister organizations for failing to hold their conventions on time.

Those dissolved included the Nepal Students Union, Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Women’s Association, Dalit Association, and Democratic Sports Association.

Among them, Thapa has already appointed Meena Kumari Kharel and Manish Koirala as ad hoc chairs of the Women’s Association and Tarun Dal, respectively.
