KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended that individuals found involved in human rights violations be suspended from public office for at least six months.
In its latest report, the Commission urged the government to implement the provision as an interim measure to curb impunity until a new legal framework is introduced.
Under recommendation section No. 1 of the report, the NHRC stated that individuals identified as human rights violators should face suspension for a minimum of six months regardless of the public position they currently hold.
The Commission said the recommendation was based on findings and analyses presented in the report, where several individuals were identified as being involved in human rights violations.
Citing Section 4 (1) (Cha) of the National Human Rights Commission Act, 2068, the NHRC called on the government to take necessary steps to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Commission said the recommendation was aimed at ending impunity and strengthening the effective protection of human rights in the country.
