KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe has accused the government of creating an institutional vacuum by dismissing office bearers from sensitive state bodies.
Speaking during the zero hour of Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting, Angdembe said the government removed officials appointed through political power-sharing arrangements, leaving several institutions vacant.
He stated that former office bearers of sensitive institutions, including commissions related to transitional justice, had been dismissed and stressed the need to appoint capable and impartial individuals without delay.
According to Angdembe, victims of the decade-long conflict are still deprived of justice even nearly two decades after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord.
He also argued that despite amendments to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Act, several legal weaknesses still remain.
Angdembe said a fourth amendment to the law is necessary to address existing shortcomings before making new appointments and urged the current government to take the matter seriously.
