Weather system triggers possibility of heavy rain today



KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across the country are being affected by active westerly and local wind systems along with a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere, increasing the likelihood of rainfall and snowfall in several provinces.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather is generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the remaining parts of the country are partly cloudy.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at one or two places in Koshi Province.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions, including Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the Terai region will experience partly cloudy conditions.

The Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of other mountainous and hilly regions and at one or two places in the Terai.

Similarly, tonight’s weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the remaining hilly and Terai areas will see partly cloudy skies.

The Department has stated that moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall with thunder and lightning are likely at some places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
