Third ‘Province Language Day’ being observed today



KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Province Government is observing the 3rd Provincial Language Day today by organizing various programs.

The provincial government began observing Provincial Language Day on April 24, 2081 BS, following the implementation of the Provincial Government Language Act, 2080. The Act was published in the Provincial Gazette on Kartik 23, 2080 BS.

According to Sub-section (3) of Section 1 of the Act, it came into effect 180 days after its publication in the Provincial Gazette. As a result, the first Provincial Language Day was observed on April 24, 2081 BS, said Dipendra Subedi, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province.

Accordingly, the Provincial Language Day is being celebrated this year. On the occasion, a rally will be organized this morning from Dudhpati in Bhaktapur via Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Dattatreya, and Kamalbinayak to Lancha Falcha Bhatkyapati, according to Pawan Kumar Pokharel, Chief of the Tourism Office, Kathmandu.

He said preparations have also been made for a special program at Lancha Falcha Bhatkyapati following the rally.

The Bagmati Province Government has declared a public holiday across the province today to mark the occasion.
