CHITWAN: Taxpayer Service Centers have been established in six municipalities of Chitwan district. These centers have been launched in five municipalities and one rural municipality, excluding Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Following the Government of Nepal’s decision, services previously provided by the Taxpayer Service Center in Khairhani have been decentralized to local governments. According to Punya Bikram Khadka, Chief of the Internal Revenue Office, Bharatpur, the services began in Ratnanagar, Kalika, and Rapti municipalities in Magh.
Shortly afterward, Khairhani also started providing the service. He added that services were launched in Madi.
Meanwhile, Padam Bahadur Bhandari, Director of Information Technology at the Inland Revenue Department, conducted a one-day training session for officials and two assistant-level employees from all six municipalities on Monday. During the training, participants were briefed on various technical and administrative matters.
Under the new arrangement, municipalities will be able to issue personal and business PANs, close taxpayers’ income tax transactions, update taxpayer details, recommend VAT registration, recommend tax payments, and provide taxpayer education in coordination with the Internal Revenue Office. Khadka noted that discussions were also held on these responsibilities.
Monitoring, investigation, and tax audit of taxpayers in these municipalities will remain under the jurisdiction of the Internal Revenue Office. Since the office is located in Bharatpur, the service center has not been established in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
There are approximately 74,000 taxpayers under the Internal Revenue Office Bharatpur. The office has set a revenue target of Rs 29.81 billion for the current fiscal year. So far, it has collected Rs 18.55 billion in revenue.
