Gang of gold chain snatchers arrested in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has arrested a group involved in snatching gold necklaces from women at various locations across Kathmandu.

A team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, apprehended the suspects along with tools and materials used in the crimes and made the arrests public on Monday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sabin Tamang, 21; Bimal Tamang, 26; and Sujan Tamang, 21, all from Kakani, Nuwakot; Satish Amatya, 44, from Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot; and Ritika Majhi, 19, from Solukhumbu, according to Police Range Kathmandu spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai.

Police said the arrests were made following investigations into a series of chain-snatching incidents in different parts of the capital.

Items recovered from the suspects include 12.90 grams of gold, a screwdriver, a large wrench, eight small wrenches, a mobile phone, a khukuri, and clothing such as hoodies, trousers, and jackets.

According to SP Bhattarai, further investigation is underway by the Thankot Police Circle. The suspects were arrested from Paiyutar in Ward No. 4 of Tarakeshwor Municipality.
