Mid-Hill Highway blocked due to rain and landslides in Rukumpur

RUKUMPUR: The Mid-Hill Highway has been blocked in Rukumpur following continuous rainfall on Saturday evening.

Heavy rain triggered landslides at dozens of locations, fully obstructing the highway. Several auxiliary roads have also been blocked due to similar incidents, according to Police Assistant Inspector Bir Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the Traffic Police Office.

He said landslides have occurred at Dhaulapahira, Kandabagar, Kimubot, Suntalabari, Saipatung, Kankri, Sita and other sections along the Mid-Hill Highway. Two separate landslides were also reported in Muru, while the Dhaunne road section has been completely blocked.

Police Assistant Inspector Thapa said efforts are underway to clear the debris in coordination with an excavator from Bhume Rural Municipality. He also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve, citing safety risks.

Meanwhile, electricity supply in Rukumpur has been disrupted since around 6:00 pm on Saturday. Hailstorms accompanying the rainfall have also caused damage to wheat crops in the area.
