UML demands Home Minister Gurung’s resignation, calls for high-level probe

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Sudan Gurung, who has been linked to controversial businessman Deepak Bhatta.

Issuing a statement, the UML also called for an independent and impartial investigation into the latest allegations involving the Home Minister.

The party has urged the government to immediately form a high-level mechanism to investigate all related issues and initiate a thorough probe process.

UML publicity department chief Min Bahadur Shahi said the party believes the rule of law must apply equally to all citizens, adding that cases involving public office bearers must be investigated in a transparent, credible, and impartial manner as per legal procedures.

He said raising questions is part of democratic practice, and stressed the need to institutionalize good governance, accountability, and responsibility.

According to Shahi, the issues linked to Gurung not only raise suspicions but may also expose possible past irregularities and malpractices.

The UML further stated that any investigation must remain free from influence or pressure, and urged a deep probe into all matters involving the Home Minister.

It also said that Gurung himself should pave the way for a fair investigation by stepping aside if necessary.

Reaffirming its commitment to ending impunity, the party said it remains dedicated to promoting transparency and strengthening the governance system.
