KATHMANDU: The parliamentary party meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is underway at Singha Durbar.

The meeting is focused on finalizing candidates for the chairpersons of various parliamentary committees.

There are a total of 16 committees under the Federal Parliament: 10 under the House of Representatives, 4 under the National Assembly, and 2 joint committees.

Elections for the chairpersons of the thematic committees under the National Assembly have already been completed, while elections for the 10 House of Representatives committees and the 2 joint committees are yet to take place.

The House of Representatives had earlier finalized the membership of the thematic committees, and Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has scheduled the election of committee chairpersons for Friday.

According to the procedure, a member of a committee may propose a fellow member as chairperson, with the proposal seconded by another member of the same committee, and submit the claim to the chair.
