SAURAHA: The ninth World Ranger Congress has kicked off at Sauraha from Tuesday.

It has been jointly organized by the International Ranger Federation (IRF) and Ministry of Forest and Environment in Nepal — the first time in Asia.

The first World Ranger Congress began in 1995 and is organized every three years.

The United States of America hosted the eighth congress in 2016.

Meanwhile, the Government of Nepal has formed a committee under the coordination of Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Forest, Dr Maheshwor Dhakal, to organize the congress.

According to Dhakal, some 550 representatives from 72 countries, including Nepal have been participating in the five-day congress.

A program has also been scheduled where Nepal would present achievements on various issues such as reducing human-wildlife conflict, management of buffer zone, zero poachings and partnership of local community in eco-tourism in the congress.

Experts of different countries participating in the congress will present their success stories of their respective countries on the issues of wildlife conservation and reducing human-wildlife conflict.
