Purna Bahadur Khadka calls NC disciplinary action ridiculous

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka has criticized the party’s disciplinary committee for seeking clarification from him, calling the move ridiculous.

Khadka made the remark after the Nepali Congress Central Disciplinary Committee, in a meeting held in Sanepa on Wednesday, asked him to furnish a written explanation within seven days.

He went further to question the legitimacy of the committee itself, describing it as unconstitutional.

The committee had decided to seek clarification from Khadka on allegations of misusing the party’s letterhead by issuing statements under a position he allegedly does not hold.

However, Khadka, who has continued issuing statements in the capacity of acting president aligned with the Deuba faction, claimed that he had used an authentic letterhead.

He also recalled that he had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the special general convention held at the end of Poush and the central working committee led by Gagan Thapa elected through it.

Khadka said the petition is still pending before the court and no final verdict has been issued yet.

“Structures formed through an unconstitutional special convention and an illegitimately elected working committee have taken a decision to seek clarification from me,” Khadka said. “This decision is meaningless, ridiculous, and baseless.”

Khadka has previously issued statements twice in the capacity of acting party president. He had opposed the arrest of Ramesh Lekhak and KP Sharma Oli in the same capacity.
