‘One house, one tap’ project brings drinking water to Malkawang

MYAGDI: A drinking water project based on the ‘one house, one tap’ concept has been completed in Malkawang of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-5.

Constructed at a total cost of Rs 5,436,042, the project has enabled the distribution of drinking water through 89 taps. Private taps with meters have been installed in 86 households, as well as in schools, health posts, and ward offices, according to Consumer Committee Chairman Ras Bahadur Chhantyal.

He said that Rs 2,699,084 was contributed by Newa Sanstha and Rs 1,925,011 by the rural municipality for the project. In addition, consumers contributed Rs 157,930 in cash and provided labor worth Rs 653,917.

Previously, residents of Malkawang relied on public taps for water. With the installation of private taps in courtyards and a regular supply of clean drinking water, both time and effort have been significantly reduced.

Ward Chairman Amar Chhantyal said that drinking water facilities have now been expanded to 185 households in Malkawang, Malampar, and Bhedikhaalta settlements of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-5.
