Case filed for setting fire to forest



NUWAKOT: The Division Forest Office has filed a case in court against an individual accused of setting fire to a community forest.

According to Division Forest Officer Pradeep Nath Sharma, a case has been lodged at the Nuwakot District Court against Narayan Tamang of Suryagadhi Rural Municipality-4, Archale, who was arrested for allegedly starting the fire.

The case is based on evidence collected during the investigation, including a video showing Tamang setting fire to the Chandeshwari Community Forest.

Authorities have charged him under Section 49(d) of the Forest Act, 2076 BS. The case seeks a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 in accordance with Sub-section (4) of Section 50 of the Act.

The Division Forest Office has also urged the public to remain cautious, noting the heightened risk of forest fires during the dry season, and has appealed to all not to set fires in forest areas.
