KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina has emphasized that ensuring smooth, fast, and effective service delivery to citizens through institutional capacity development of government agencies and public organizations is a top government priority.
Speaking on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of Public Service Broadcasting, Radio Nepal, Dr. Timilsina said the ministry is moving forward with renewed energy to make its institutions strong, accountable, and results-oriented.
“Citizens can receive quality services only if government agencies are strong. There is no alternative to building effective, accountable institutions,” he stated.
Highlighting the role of youth in governance after the recent House of Representatives elections, Dr. Timilsina stressed the need to correct negative trends in political and administrative structures.
“Where political negativity has dominated institutions, we must realign them to meet the country’s needs. The political core has improved; now it is time for every institution and every citizen to fulfill their responsibilities,” he said.
On accountability and discipline, he added, “We will not compromise. Wrongdoing will not be tolerated, and we will take action where weaknesses exist. The ministry and government are committed to ensuring those responsible for setting rules are held accountable.”
Dr. Timilsina also underscored frugality in government expenditure, linking the control of unnecessary spending to effective information dissemination and good governance. He called on citizens to contribute to creating conditions where youth need not go abroad for opportunities in the next five years.
Regarding public service broadcasting, the minister emphasized that information is a fundamental right in a democratic system. “Public service broadcasters must be effective, reliable, and people-oriented, keeping pace with changing communication technology, market competition, and audience needs,” he said.
Recalling his student days, he noted that Radio Nepal inspired him toward literary writing and highlighted its long-term role in societal development.
