Sher Bahadur Deuba clarifies Budhanilkantha residence not sold

KATHMANDU: Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that his private residence in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, has not been sold.

Through his secretariat on Thursday, Deuba stated that the large property in Budhanilkantha remains unsold, responding to reports that circulated after a group allegedly linked to the Gen-Z movement set fire to the house on September 9, 2025.

Recent news claiming that the house was sold for around Rs 4 billion prompted Deuba, currently abroad, to issue a clarification.

“The Budhanilkantha residence is not for sale,” his secretariat said. “Reports in the media claiming the house has been sold are false and misleading. The property is not on the market.”

During the Gen-Z movement, the Deuba couple was seriously injured in an attack, and the house was set on fire. The secretariat also stressed that the property holds historical significance, and there are no plans to sell it.

According to the secretariat, the house and its land were given to Deuba’s wife, former Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, by her family as part of her dowry. The family reportedly purchased the property in 1994 and gifted it as dowry, the secretariat added.
