Barshaman praises Swarnim’s push for economic reforms

KATHMANDU: Former Finance Minister and Nepali Communist Party leader Barshaman Pun has lauded newly appointed Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle for initiating steps toward economic reform.

Taking to Facebook, Pun praised Wagle’s commitment to implement the recommendations put forward by the High-Level Economic Reform Recommendation Commission.

“I had announced the formation of the commission through the budget for the fiscal year 2081/82 with the goal of addressing long-term structural challenges in the economy and advancing a new phase of economic reform,” Pun stated.

The commission, previously formed under the leadership of former Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal, had recommended scrapping 15 laws that hinder investment and abolishing the Revenue Investigation Department.

Upon assuming office, Minister Wagle decided to move forward with implementing these recommendations.

Pun also expressed his commitment, both as a former finance minister and a member of the House of Representatives, to continue supporting genuine efforts aimed at the country’s economic development.
