Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak arrested

KATHMANDU: Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been arrested.

An official from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office confirmed that Lekhak was taken into custody from his residence in Katunje, Bhaktapur.

The arrest follows a decision by the newly formed government to implement the report of the inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.

Following the Cabinet’s decision, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung held overnight discussions with chiefs of security agencies. Police had requested a formal written order from the government before proceeding with arrests.

Law Ministry Secretary Parashwar Dhungana was also summoned to Police Headquarters in Naxal late at night.

The inquiry commission had investigated the suppression of the Gen-Z movement September 8-9, 2025, and submitted its report to the interim government led by Sushila Karki.

Although a decision was made by the then government to make the report public, it has not been officially released. However, parts of the report have appeared in the media.

The report recommended legal action against then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and then Police Chief Chandrakuber Khapung.
