Electricity reaches Dang’s Saigha, bringing relief to villagers

DANG: Residents of Saigha in Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-19, Dang have welcomed the arrival of electricity service, marking a major improvement in daily life and local development.

Local resident Dhan Bahadur Sarki described the change as a significant relief. He said electricity reached his home about a month ago, ending the days of living in darkness. “Earlier, children had to study by flashlight or solar lamp, and charging mobile phones required a 30-minute trip to a neighboring village. Now life has become much easier,” he said.

He added that managing light during illness or emergencies is no longer a challenge, recalling times when he had to bring a solar lamp from Ghorahi Bazaar.

Locals noted that the lack of electricity had previously hindered small businesses, making milling, sewing, computer work, and welding impossible. With power now available, opportunities for youth-led initiatives and entrepreneurship are emerging in the village.

Ghorahi-19 Ward Chairman Gyan Bahadur Rayamajhi said electrification efforts began in 2079 BS with a contract worth Rs. 36.7 million and continued through a subsequent contract in late 2080 BS to reach remaining settlements.

Delays by the contractor had previously slowed progress. While electricity has now reached most parts of Saigha, areas including Lithan, Satam, Dandagaun, Panchpokhari, and Dhanchaur are still awaiting service.

Chairman Rayamajhi said efforts are underway to complete the remaining electrification quickly. Residents hope that alongside electricity, the ward will see improvements in roads, drinking water, health, and education infrastructure, particularly given the hilly terrain of the area.
