Six parties to submit names of PR candidates today

KATHMANDU: Six political parties that crossed the three percent vote threshold in the House of Representatives (HoR) election held on March 5 are submitting the names of candidates to be elected through Proportional Representation (PR) during office hours today.

The parties, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party, Shram Sanskriti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), have been asked to submit the names of elected candidates by cluster to the Election Commission by 5:00 pm, Election Commission Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC said.

Out of 12,186,617 votes cast in the PR election, 11,835,025 were valid. The RSP, which received the highest number of valid votes, is required to submit details for 57 MPs according to the designated clusters. Similarly, Nepali Congress will submit 20 names, CPN-UML 16, Nepali Communist Party nine, and both the Shram Sanskriti Party and RPP four each.

The Election Commission will make the final list of elected candidates public today if the submitted names match the designated cluster representation. If discrepancies are found, the parties will be given time to correct the submissions. Under the law, a total of 110 candidates are to be elected through the proportional representation system.
