Eight injured in multi-vehicle collision on East–West Highway in Nawalparasi



NAWALPARASI: At least eight people were injured after five vehicles collided along the East–West Highway at Daunne in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) late Tuesday night.

The accident occurred near Ghiukhola in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 when an India-registered container truck traveling east from Sunauli attempted to overtake on a one-way section of the road, according to Superintendent of Police Yuvraj Khadka of the District Police Office.

Motorcycle rider Amar Karki, around 30, from Raskot Municipality-6 in Kalikot, and pillion rider Mahendra Mahatara, about 25, from Raskot-7, were injured in the collision.

Six passengers traveling in a bus were also injured. Police identified them as bus driver Shankar Bista of Smriti Rural Municipality-4 in Rolpa; Binod Kumar Achhami of Manthali Municipality-12 in Ramechhap; Udiram Bista of Liwang, Rolpa Municipality-4; Namnuhang Rai of Dharan-15; Darshan Pokhrel of Rolpa Municipality-2; Chandra Singh Thapa of Sunsari-5; and 60-year-old Yagya Prasad Bhusal of Swargadwari Municipality-7 in Pyuthan.

All the injured have been taken to Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Police said the container driver involved in the accident fled the scene and a search operation is underway. Efforts are also ongoing to clear the highway, which was temporarily obstructed following the crash.
