EC says all House election processes to conclude by March 19

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission Nepal has said that all remaining procedures related to the House of Representatives election held on March 5 will be completed by March 19.

According to commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the commission plans to complete all remaining tasks, including issuing certificates to candidates elected under the proportional representation (PR) system, within March 19.

Bhattarai said the commission expects vote counting under the PR system to be completed across the country by Tuesday.

After the counting is finalized, the commission will determine the percentage of valid votes obtained by each political party. Based on this percentage, parties will be asked to submit the names of candidates to be selected from their closed PR lists.

The commission will then verify the names submitted by the parties according to the required cluster categories before finalizing the selection of elected members and issuing their certificates.

Bhattarai said the current process follows the same practice adopted in previous elections for completing the PR selection procedure.

Meanwhile, the commission stated that candidates elected under the first-past-the-post system have already received their certificates from the respective election officers’ offices.

According to the commission, the Rastriya Swatantra Party is currently leading the vote count in both the direct and proportional representation categories.
