Oli speaks on alleged foreign investment in polls, reiterates balanced ties with India and China

JHAPA: Chair of the CPN-UML and former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has addressed concerns regarding alleged foreign investment in Nepal’s upcoming elections and the country’s relations with its two immediate neighbors, India and China.

Responding to a question from an Indian journalist during a campaign interaction in Jhapa-5, Oli said there have been widespread rumors suggesting that external forces are attempting to influence the election outcome through financial investment. However, he clarified that he does not possess concrete evidence to support such claims.

“We have heard many rumors about foreign investment aimed at changing Nepal’s election results. These matters are widely discussed on social media, and people are talking about them,” Oli said. “But I do not have solid proof. Without concrete evidence, I will not make any allegations. Without fire, how can there be smoke? We have heard these things, but I will not say anything without evidence.”

On Nepal’s relations with its neighbors, India and China, Oli stressed that Nepal maintains honest and balanced ties with both countries.

He said Nepal does not use one neighbor against the other and will not allow its territory to be used against any neighboring country. “We do not maintain dishonest relations with either neighbor. We will not provoke or antagonize anyone,” he stated.

Recalling his tenure as prime minister, Oli said his government strengthened relations with China while maintaining balance with India. He emphasized that Nepal’s foreign policy is guided by national interest, dialogue and mutual trust, and that the country will continue to safeguard its sovereignty while fostering friendly ties with both neighbors.
