ABU DHABI: Three foreign nationals, including a Nepali citizen, were killed in an Iranian drone and missile attack in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday. A total of 58 others were injured in the incident.
Quoting the UAE Ministry of Defence, Gulf News reported that since the attacks began on Saturday, the air force and air defence systems have intercepted 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 541 drones.
According to the ministry, 20 ballistic missiles were destroyed on Sunday morning alone, eight of which fell into the sea. It also claimed that two cruise missiles and 311 drones were intercepted and destroyed. However, 21 drones reportedly fell into civilian areas.
Out of 165 ballistic missiles launched from Iran, 152 were intercepted and destroyed, while 13 fell into the sea. Of the 541 drones, 506 were intercepted and neutralised, while 35 fell in populated areas across the country, causing physical damage.
Gulf News reported that the deceased include citizens of Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.
Among the 58 injured are nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
The ministry stated that debris from intercepted missiles and drones caused minor to moderate property damage in several locations.
It added that the armed forces remain on full alert and that the safety of citizens, residents and visitors is a top priority. The public has been urged to rely only on official sources for information and refrain from spreading unverified rumours.
