BAGLUNG: A total of 22 candidates contesting the House of Representatives (HoR) election in Baglung have opened dedicated bank accounts to manage their campaign expenses, according to the Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee.
Out of 23 candidates running in Baglung Constituency No. 1 and Constituency No. 2, as many as 22 have opened accounts so far. Kishor Kumar Shrestha, treasurer at the Treasury and Accounts Control Office, Baglung, said candidates are required to conduct all election-related income and expenditure through the same account.
He added that one candidate is still in the process of opening an account. The Election Commission has set a spending ceiling of Rs 2.9 million for each candidate in Baglung.
Authorities said campaign finances will be closely monitored to prevent overspending and financial irregularities, and to ensure transparency and cost-effectiveness during the election.
Shrestha said the provision requiring candidates to open separate bank accounts for election purposes aims to discourage excessive spending and strengthen financial discipline in the electoral process.
