976 crime cases registered in Kathmandu in the last month



KATHMANDU: A total of 976 crime cases were registered in Kathmandu district in the month of Magh, according to the District Police Range Kathmandu.

Of the total cases, 159 were categorized as heinous and serious crimes, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu.

Police data show that 22 cases were related to women, children, and senior citizens during the review period. Economic crimes accounted for the highest number, with 466 cases registered. Additionally, 340 cases were recorded under various other categories.

During the same period, police conducted a “special operation” in Kathmandu, arresting 10 individuals involved in snatching incidents targeting pedestrians while riding motorcycles. Legal action has been initiated against them, police said.

In terms of verdict implementation, police arrested 360 individuals and recovered fines amounting to Rs 22 million from them.

Similarly, 709 individuals were arrested in connection with ongoing cases. Of them, 637 are men.

Regarding complaints related to women and children, 149 cases of domestic violence and 49 direct petitions were registered. Of these, 131 domestic violence cases and 36 direct petitions were settled through reconciliation, according to police.
