Senior politician Bishwabandhu Thapa passes away



KATHMANDU: Senior politician and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Bishwabandhu Thapa has passed away at the age of 98.

Thapa breathed his last on Saturday evening at HAMS Hospital while undergoing treatment, family sources confirmed.

According to his family, he had suffered a stroke about a month ago and had returned home after showing signs of improvement. However, his health deteriorated again a few days ago, leading to his hospitalization.

Active in Nepali politics since 2007 BS, Thapa was regarded as one of the influential leaders of the Panchayat era. He held key roles in administration and policymaking during the Panchayat system.

Thapa also played a significant role in the formation and expansion of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party. Earlier in his political career, he served as General Secretary of the Nepali Congress. Thapa is survived by two sons and two daughters.
