Upendra Yadav blames former ruling parties for current crisis

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP-Nepal) Chair Upendra Yadav has accused parties that previously led the government of being responsible for the country’s current situation.

Speaking at a program organized at the National Press Club in Kathmandu on Saturday, Yadav said the present circumstances were created due to the failure, inefficiency, and lack of vision of parties that once claimed two-thirds majorities while in power. He also alleged that the situation had led to the 2084 elections being held in 2082.

Yadav said that had the government formed after the Gen-Z movement resolved political conflicts and key national issues before announcing elections, the upcoming Parliament would have been more effective.

He stressed that as elections draw closer, all efforts should focus on addressing the problems facing the country and its people, regardless of the prevailing circumstances.

Although democracy has been preserved, Yadav noted that the federal structure envisioned in the Constitution has yet to be fully implemented. He argued that meaningful change in the system of governance and the electoral system is necessary to ensure the country’s success.

Yadav added that his party’s election manifesto includes the formation of a high-level constitutional review commission comprising constitutional experts, along with priorities such as domestic job creation, free healthcare and education, and property investigation measures.
