NCP can become number one party in the election: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that although public trust in the party is gradually increasing, a favorable political environment has not yet developed as expected.

Speaking at a training program organized by the NCP Federal Contact Committee’s Central Election Mobilization Committee at Parisdanda on Tuesday, Prachanda said that hope and confidence among the people have been growing since the formation of the NCP. However, he noted that the kind of momentum seen around new forces on social media has not yet shifted in the party’s favor.

Prachanda said that in the current election, being held under difficult and extraordinary circumstances, party leaders and cadres must work harder and remain more active than in the past to ensure a positive electoral outcome.

He stressed the need to make the NCP victorious to safeguard national sovereignty, lay the foundation for socialism, establish good governance by combating corruption, and achieve economic development and prosperity.

Prachanda also argued that an attempt is being made to create a narrative where being new is defined merely as opposing the old, rather than engaging with ideology and substantive political issues.

He expressed confidence that the NCP could emerge as the largest party if leaders and cadres remain united and work in a planned and dedicated manner in the remaining campaign period. He also instructed party members to focus on field-level mobilisation instead of internal debates.

During the program, several leaders, including Bishnu Adhikari from the CPN-UML and Arjun Chaulagain from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), formally joined the NCP.
