Gagan Thapa says country needs responsible power amid extreme distrust

KASKI: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stressed the need for a responsible political force to steer the country through a period of extreme despair and public distrust.

Addressing a party assembly in Kaski, Thapa said that instead of spreading agitation, Nepali Congress should play a role in patiently guiding the nation toward solutions.

He highlighted that society is currently marked by deep anger among citizens and a severe lack of trust in state institutions.

“The country needs a power that can manage the situation. Anyone can light a fire, but it takes patience and capacity to put it out. That strength must come from us,” Thapa said. “Anyone can spread excitement, but what we need is a power that practices conscious politics. That is Congress. We will unify; we will manage.”

Thapa also urged party leaders and workers to respond to the public’s dissatisfaction through reforms.

“People are angry, and that anger is deep. There is extreme distrust in the state, constitution, judiciary, political parties, and leadership,” he said. “This distrust is spreading, and it feels as if the entire country is losing confidence. There is a huge turmoil in society, a fire burning inside. At this time, it is the responsibility of the Nepali Congress to manage it.”

The NC Chair identified corruption as the root of the country’s despair. “When citizens are asked who the greatest enemy of Nepal is, they say ‘corruption.’ Nepali Congress, renewed and resolute, is the biggest fighter against it,” Thapa said. “From head to toe, every leader has made a commitment. Just as we led Nepal out of the turmoil of violence in the past, now we will take it out of the turmoil of corruption.”

He concluded by asking party leaders and workers to carry the message during their door-to-door campaigns that Congress has the capability to manage and reform the country.
