KATHMANDU: The reconstruction of the historic Gahana Pokhari in Hadigaun, Kathmandu, is moving forward at a rapid pace.
The project, undertaken by Kathmandu Metropolitan City under the Heritage Conservation and Urban Development Program, aims to restore the pond and surrounding structures in their original style. According to the municipality, work officially began after the completion of a religious ritual, Kshama Puja.
The restoration, estimated to cost between Rs 5.2 to 5.5 million, will preserve the pond’s authentic character. Alongside the pond, the surrounding areas are being upgraded with wider footpaths, traditional balustrades, expanded green and child-friendly spaces, and tourist assistance centers.
The municipality expects that upon completion, Gahana Pokhari will become an even more attractive heritage site, combining religious, cultural, and tourism significance.
