Development comes only through peace, not destruction: Prime Minister

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the country must move forward on the path of development through peace, not destruction.

Speaking at a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday to form the main organizing committee for National Democracy Day, Prime Minister Karki stressed that lasting development is possible only through peace. She called for unity with a sense of national responsibility to maintain peace in the country.

Referring to movements for change from the 1951 political movement to the recent Gen-Z movement, she emphasized the need to internalize these struggles and continue advancing along the democratic path.

Prime Minister Karki said recent developments have made it clear to all that the country must change in line with the aspirations of young people. She added that conditions should be created so future generations will not have to wage another struggle for change.

On the occasion, a main organizing committee under the chairpersonship of Prime Minister Karki was formed to celebrate National Democracy Day in a grand manner. The day is observed every year on Falgun 7 to commemorate the historic establishment of democracy in 1951.
