Congress announces no electoral alliance, fields candidates in all 165 constituencies

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has announced that it will not form any electoral alliance with other parties in the March 5 election.

Stating that it has already fielded candidates in all 165 constituencies, the party said there will be no pre-election alliance with any political force.

“Alliance culture has created unrest among citizens. We have not held any election-focused meetings with any party,” party spokesperson Devraj Chalise said in Kathmandu on Thursday. “There will be no alliance before the election. The Congress has fielded its own candidates in all constituencies.”

Chalise said the party is actively campaigning across the country and added that party president Gagan Kumar Thapa has repeatedly made the same position clear in public. He urged the public not to be misled by rumors of electoral coordination or alliances.

He also warned against falling for what he termed “sweet and deceptive rhetoric” of authoritarian forces, and called on the Election Commission to take note of other parties allegedly using children in election-related activities.

Chalise said the Congress is concerned about the growing trend of hateful expressions and indecent remarks against opposition parties and leaders on social media and elsewhere, warning that such behavior is undermining a healthy environment for political competition.
