Maoist party unveils manifesto as it enters electoral race for the first time

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’, has unveiled its election manifesto focusing on uplifting the economic condition of poor and marginalized people through state economic policies.

The party made public its manifesto at a press conference on Sunday in the presence of General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand, ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

Having entered peaceful politics, the party is contesting elections for the first time. It has pledged to end capitalist, broker-driven and imperialist policies and culture, while narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor.

General Secretary Chand said the party is committed to making education and health services accessible to all and ensuring employment opportunities. He also said the private sector should not be allowed to arbitrarily set fees.

He stressed the need to make agriculture self-reliant, increase investment in science and technology, and attract youth. The party has also pledged to boost trade and investment to make the country prosperous.
