Sarlahi road accidents: 29 killed, 190 injured in six months

SARLAHI: Road accidents in Sarlahi district have claimed 29 lives and left 190 people seriously injured in the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to police records.

Chief Police Inspector Ashok Sah of the District Traffic Police Office said a total of 641 accidents involving motorcycles as well as small and large four-wheelers were recorded during the period. Most of the fatalities were motorcyclists and passengers.

Inspector Sah noted that accidents occur more frequently on the district’s inner road sections. To reduce risks, the traffic police have conducted dozens of awareness programs on traffic rules, involving schoolchildren, local residents, and pedestrians. He added that most accidents are linked to violations of traffic rules by both drivers and pedestrians.

During the same period, the traffic police collected Rs 4.83 million in revenue by taking action against vehicles found violating traffic regulations. Enforcement targeted offenses such as driving without a license, not wearing helmets, lacking travel permits, and carrying passengers beyond capacity. Regular vehicle checks were conducted on both the East–West Highway and interior road sections.

Police have also intensified inspections to enforce the mandatory provision of two drivers on long-distance passenger buses. Inspector Sah said that of the 7,277 long-distance buses inspected over six months, action was taken against 22 vehicles found violating this requirement.
