Foreign Employment Board extends financial help to 171 migrant families

KATHMANDU: The government has ensured financial assistance to families of 171 Nepali migrant workers who died in the course of foreign employment.

The figure includes the data of the first three months of the current fiscal year beginning July 17.

The Board provided Rs 700 thousand each to the families.

The families of migrant workers who lost their lives in the course of employment and within a year of returning home are eligible to claim the compensation.

Likewise, during the period, a total of 98 families of those who were left mutilated and fallen sick in course of employment were provided financial assistance.

Some seven dependent members of the migrant families have received financial support for medical treatment of kidney, cancer, heart diseases, Parkinson and Alzheimer’s.

According to the Board, the support amount starts from Rs 15,000 while the maximum ceiling is Rs 50,000 per person.
