Six ‘VIP’ gamblers produced before court

KATHMANDU: Six, among the 25, who were arrested while gambling at a VIP gambling den at Pipalmarga, Kathmandu, have been produced before the Supreme Court on Wednesday for hearing.

The six people had filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday claiming their detention was illegal.

The SC had assigned a single bench of Justice Purusottam Bhandari to look after the habeas corpus petition during the Tihar festival, according to Information Office at the apex court, Devendra Gautam.

Those produced before the SC are Balaram Sapkota (Bale), Pawan Kumar Gupta, Pabitra Kumar Karki, Sharan Kumar Goyal, Bikram Gautam and Mukti Lama.

A single bench of Bhandari on Sunday had directed police to present the gamblers before the court within 24 hours.

A police squad from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj had arrested 25 gamblers and confiscated Rs 2.67 million stake money from them from a house Bikram Gautam at Pipalmarga of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3.
