Deuba’s secretariat refutes reports of talks with Thapa and Sharma

KATHMANDU: Claims circulating in the media that former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba held talks with newly elected party President Gagan Thapa and Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma are untrue, according to Deuba’s secretariat.

Deuba’s personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, issued a statement clarifying that Sher Bahadur Deuba has not met either of them since the special general convention elected the new Congress working committee.

“Some media outlets have reported that former general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma met with Deuba. However, these reports are incorrect, as the president has not met them,” Bhanu Deuba said.

The Election Commission last Friday recognized the new working committee, elected under the leadership of Gagan Thapa at the second special general convention of the Nepali Congress held at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu, as the official party leadership.

However, the Deuba faction has rejected the decision and announced plans to seek legal recourse. Earlier, a meeting chaired by Acting President of the Deuba faction, Purna Bahadur Khadka, had decided to expel then general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma from the party for five years.
