KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has called on outgoing party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka to provide a guiding, guardian-like role as the party moves forward.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the Central Working Committee meeting on Saturday, Thapa stressed on putting past differences aside and uniting the party for the days ahead, following the Election Commission’s recognition of the second special general convention.
Thapa highlighted that the process of electing new leadership through the special convention has concluded and said questions regarding procedural legitimacy are natural. “Some colleagues went to the Election Commission with their views, and I have taken that naturally. We also went to the Commission ourselves,” he said.
He said the Election Commission has already made its decision, and all members must now accept it and work together to move the party forward.
“Our aim is to strengthen the Nepali Congress by building on the party’s founding principles and values, connecting it with the consciousness of a new era,” Thapa said.
He further called on senior leaders to collaborate with the new leadership and ensure the inclusion of new members, noting the urgency of the work at hand. Thapa added that many tasks need to be completed within the next two days.
Thapa concluded by urging all party leaders and workers to unite. “Within a day or two, the Nepali Congress will move forward as one. We are in constant dialogue with party colleagues at all levels,” he said.
