Six gamblers arrested from ‘VIP’ gambling den move SC

KATHMANDU: Six out of 25 gamblers arrested from a ‘VIP’ gambling den in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Saturday morning have moved the Supreme Court (SC).

They have filed a habeas corpus petition claiming their detention to be illegal. The apex court has assigned a single bench of Justice Purusottam Bhandari to look after the habeas corpus petition during the Tihar festival.

According to Information Office at the apex court, Devendra Gautam, those filing the petition are Balaram Sapkota (Bale), Pawan Kumar Gupta, Pabitra Kumar Karki, Sharan Kumar Goyal, Bikram Gautam and Mukti Lama.

A single bench of Bhandari on Sunday had directed police to present the gamblers before the court within 24 hours.

A police squad from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj had arrested 25 gamblers and confiscated Rs 2.67 million stake money from them from a house Bikram Gautam at Pipalmarga of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3.
