Koirala joins Deuba camp meeting, conveys message from special general convention faction

KATHMANDU: As discussions continued among leaders of the establishment faction at Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj, senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has arrived carrying a message from the faction advocating the special general convention.

Koirala reached Maharajgunj with a message from General Secretaries Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa while Deuba was holding consultations with his close aides.

Koirala was accompanied by joint general secretaries Jeevan Pariyar and Badri Pandey, along with leader Minendra Rijal, as the establishment faction’s meeting was underway.

“We went to Deuba’s residence and held discussions. Leaders from the establishment faction are also present here,” a leader participating in the meeting told Khabarhub. “Consultations are ongoing between establishment leaders and those close to Shekhar.”

As the Nepali Congress special general convention moves toward the possibility of selecting new leadership, Deuba has also been consulting legal experts. It was in this context that Koirala conveyed the message from the special general convention faction. However, he has not disclosed the details of any minimum consensus proposal.

According to one leader, Deuba informed Koirala that he is also in discussions with legal experts. Sources claim that Deuba has been consulting with leaders and cadres, including Ramesh Lekhak, as well as legal advisers.
