NC senior leader Shekhar Koirala holds talks to maintain party unity

KATHMANDU: Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has held discussions with central committee members, district party chiefs, and senior legal experts to ensure the party remains united.

During the meetings, Koirala reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the party cohesive and stated that he is continuously engaging in dialogue with all factions to prevent any splits.

“I am in constant discussion with the party president, acting president, and general secretaries to ensure the party does not split under any circumstances,” Koirala said. “Rest assured, the party will remain united. There is no reason to be disheartened.”

Legal experts present in the meeting clarified that, according to the party constitution, only the Central Working Committee has the authority to call a special convention. They added that the special convention convened by the general secretaries is not valid and cannot be used to change the leadership.

The meeting also involved discussions on ways to mediate between the conflicting factions to safeguard party unity. Leaders and workers attending the session urged Koirala to play a facilitating role to reconcile differences and strengthen party cohesion.

The discussion was attended by party Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Deputy General Secretaries Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar, central members Bal B. KC and Minendra Rijal, and senior legal advisors Sher Bahadur KC, Yogendra Adhikari, and Upendra Keshari Nyaupane, among others.
