Kathmandu University hosts AI Conclave 2026 from today

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu University (KU) in Dhulikhel has begun hosting the AI Conclave 2026 from today, bringing together students, researchers, industry leaders and policymakers to discuss the growing role of artificial intelligence in Nepal.

The three-day event is being organised by the Kathmandu University Artificial Intelligence Club (KUAIC) under the Department of Artificial Intelligence as part of the university’s broader AI Convergence 2026 initiative. Organisers said the conclave is an upgraded version of the AI-Meet programmes held over the past two years.

KUAIC President Ashim Shrestha said the conclave aims to bring learning and innovation in AI onto a single platform. He added that the event seeks to move beyond viewing AI only as a research field or a generative tool, and instead highlight its practical applications in education, healthcare, finance, governance, industry and society.

Held under the theme “Bridging Intelligence and Innovation,” the conclave is designed to connect students, researchers, startups, industries, policymakers and the general public on a common platform. The overall AI Convergence 2026 initiative is being implemented in three phases, with the first phase, AI Canvas, including foundation courses, bootcamps and webinars focused on basic AI learning.

The second phase, AI Conclave, is being held from January 12 to 14 at Kathmandu University’s central campus. On Monday, a National-level AI Summit will be organised. Tuesday will feature project exhibitions, robotics competitions, e-games, tech talks and an expo, while Wednesday will focus on “AI for Society”, including panel discussions, the e-games finale, public awareness programmes on AI, and discussions on AI policy.

Organisers estimate that around 5,000 visitors will attend the three-day conclave, making it one of the largest AI-focused events to be held in Nepal so far.
